I got a lovely hall table from Fosco here on Jumbletown at Christmas.
I quickly decided that our hall was too narrow for it, but it was the perfect size to make into a coffee table. Our lounge is small, so a narrow table is ideal, and because the colour of it is similar to the colour of the floor, it makes it even less obtrusive.
My partner is quite tall, and he complains that regular coffee tables are a bit too low, so this was a good oppurtunity to custom make one to his liking.

I took the table top off and shortened the legs with a hand saw and mitre box.
Because it was a hall table, the table top was originally assembled flush to the back of the table frame, so I repositioned it and reassembled it with dowels and a few angle brackets.
Here I have to include that I used dowel marker pins, which are a great help. You use them to make sure you drill the corresponding holes in the right place- without them this table would have looked like a Swiss cheese!

It's more of a repurposing than a makeover, so the difference is more in function than looks- thanks Chris P for finding the before photo!

In the background is a freebie sofa, it had been chewed by a dog and was covered in dog saliva stains. After a thorough wash with fabric cleaner it smelled fresh as a daisy. I put white blankets on it and sewed new covers for the back cushions. (From my grannies 70-year-old sheets. Here nothing goes to waste.) The small white cushion covers are antique-ish hand embroidered and monogrammed pillow cases, that were taken in to fit cushions I had.

Nothing complicated, but I like my interior decoration like I like my men- cheap and easy;-)

Thanks guys! And thanks Chris for the before photo.
My parents' house in my native country is a treasure trove for old linens. Nothing was ever thrown away, sheets that were worn or torn would all be kept for rags. The quality is amazing, they are thick and soft as velvet.
