this dog house we got today free, via the vet's notice board.
it was quite rotten and soggy at the bottom.
a local guy doing carpentry said it was fine state and wood good just cut end off and make good the rest.
so we got to it.
with an electric saw.
both twin and i have never used one and both with Parkinsons and another neuro disorder.
eyes are dreadful so preservative was added.
self with sjogrens, i dont need dust either.
self in pink jumper, twin with red scarf, guess not appropiate clothes to be working in.
wait til the hens SEE this when its finished!
its their coop, it will be on raised legs too.
twin and i trying to figure a way of adding a bottom with a pull out tray for cleaning and also sorting some wood worm and rotting at the top too.
will rot hurt the hens?
how best to treat this wood?
the inside wood is fantastic, just around the edges not great.

I am in awe of your both - you are wonderful! But yes, the clothing is dangerous with power tools, end of cardigan, long flowing scarf.....so wrong! I know of so many farm accidents due to folk going too close to machinery wearing flowing clothing.......please heed warning for your own safety. Hope the coop goes well for you otherwise.

I noticed you had a thread about a RAt problem you had in the green tip section, well hens will/may attract rats. Also you mention you live in a housing unit, you may want to check you are allowed to keep hens as not all do....if all is ok ,good luck with your coop./

Normally a couple of hens is fine, but don't get cockerels too noisy...

As for the rats/mice, if you keep the pen clean it will not attract any rats, we have 10 altogether in the country and no rats...

Good luck with the build...:P
