Hi there,

Nowadays everything in comes in standardised sizes and that's why items from different origins sometimes fit together surprisingly well!

What you can see in the pictures below are my repurposed food containers and in them my selfmade portions of rice pudding on their way into my freezer. :-)
The pots are Sainsbury's creme, yoghurt, etc. pots, I removed the foil that covered them and had all the writing on it. And the lid is from Lidl's cappucino, Tesco also has one with red lid.
I'm not saying it is completely airtight but close enough to it, since most food containers you can buy aren't airtight either even if it's written on them (I only know 2 expensive brands that are truly air tight).

I do store half onions, small pieces of cheese and lots of other stuff in them, they are very handy. And they are FREE. You wouldn't believe that they are even microwave safe. I don't have a dishwasher so I don't know about that.

By the way this lid also fits on some food cans... :-)

It's worth to keep our eyes open, isn't it?

Well done Sissie and thanks for sharing. It is a brilliant way to freeze small portions of left over food for use another day and at the same time re-use containers. Thank you.

I use the semi clear plastic dishes with lids from the Chinese takeaway to store leftover portions of anything. As you can see through them it is easy to stack them in freezer and see what you have.

I also use ice cream containers to store extra curry, stew etc (but you have to label these clearly as the son does not like to go for ice cream only to find it is goulash!

That's a very good ideea. Great combination. I am using them at the moment for flower seeds. See photo.

I never thought of trying to fit the lids on the plastic containers... but I love the idea, it's very handy! And the lid with the can is just great, now you gave me a brilliant tip for storing my bits and pieces !!:)

I'm using the containers for flower seeds too, and after unapam's inspiration use the cut up icecream and butter boxes as labels.

Thanks for sharing this idea, Sissi!

Regards,
