I don't have too many pics of "before".We have finished building our house and all furniture from children's bedrooms was got from jumbletown/dublinwaste -all free. And here are the results. Some friends of ours asked us if we had to pay big money to order special furniture to suit the colors of the rooms :-)
A big THANK YOU to YOU all!

Well Kiwicooke, I would love to give your house or anyone's a make-over. Actually I realised how much I love restoring stuff. But time is really a problem - my little girl is nearly 4 and my little boy is 2 and a half and I can only do things when they are asleep. Sanding machine is not really something to use around children. :-)

Thanks everybody for all the good words. All inspiration came from this forum and it was all like a challenge. My new project is: making a marble effect paint on a fire surround. I also have a fire insert that came from the dump full of rust and I am sanding it down. Can't wait to finish it!

Hi Hackytza

Beautiful jobs done on the children's rooms, they must be delighted with them. Can I ask did you use the same paint on the walls as on the furniture ie was it emulsion and if so did you put a finish coat over it?

Thanks for your help you might have inspired me?!!

Hi sparkwell,

I have used proper furniture paint (timber/metal paint) and have used emulsion on the walls. I was lucky enough to get the same colour (lilac bloom). I have bought a big can of white and used it as undercoat on everything and also used the white to create different shades from the same colour and I have used acrylic paints for the wall stencils. Hope this helps.

Hi Hackytza

I thought as much because the finish looks so good. It all matches in so well cos you used the same colour. Thanks for that info and well done on a lovely job again!

Hi can i just say what a fab job you made of the rooms they are beautiful!!
just wondering what is the name of the blue paint you have in the boy's room and where did you get the tractor stencils for the wall. I'm starting my own project with my son's room and would love if it turned out half as good as this. Great job and well done

Hi

Love what you've done. So imaginative. I love the walls of the boys room. Can you tell me if they are stencils or if you did them yourself?? Would love to do something similar.

Regards

Aoife

hello hillis,
just googled tractor stencil or train stencil images and print them out. Use a pencil then and draw the outline over the print on your wall: this will leave bear marks on the wall, guiding you to paint it on the wall with a small brush. hope that helps. :)

I could only do things when the children were asleep too. Ofcourse - the rooms are not anymore as nice and tidy as in the photos and I already have scribles of markers and pens on the walls :) House work is never finished :) Thanks all for the good words again - I think JT is a great place.

Love Your Job
I Am Trying To Do The Same As You Now
But Can I Ask Where Do You Have The Toys

hackytza
04-03-2010, 12:01 PM
thanks marcomary. At the time I took the photos, we were not moved in, and the toys weren't in.
Now the toys are all over the place :-)
I got a plastic multicolored shelving from SuperValue. It breaks a bit the monotony of only one color in the room. I didn't seeing them since.
And we also have a lot of colorful canvas bins.
Good luck with your work.
And show us the results :) Don't forget to take photos BEFORE the children are moving in ;)
