You know when you find a really nice old item and you don't want to paint it (which is a great way of upgrading) but the top is all marked, veneer lifting away etc. The best solution I have found is to watch out for another item of similar colour and use a 'slice' of that to make a new top. Below are pics of a bookcase that I made a new top for, with a piece of an old headboard cut to size. The other is a writing bureau that was pretty good except the top was destroyed from 'someone' watering pot plants. (I know who that someone was--I used to do my homework on this many years ago at home). I used a piece of a gate leg table to make a new top for this and the rest of the table became a little side table for a narrow guest room. The things we need are all around us, just look with an open eye and a mind that thinks 'outside the box' Eibh.
