This is a project that I did last year but never got around to posting.

These were received from Jumbletowner, PlayGirlB29, with many thanks. They were pine and chairs were covered in very old fashioned material.

I think you'll agree the end result is a bit more modern.

Wow, what a great restoration job. These look like new. You must be very patient to get such a good paint finish. Well done, Eibhlin.

Thats a fantastic result. I have a similar table and chairs that I was going to get rid of after seeing this project I'm planning on painting it instead. What paint did you use did you need to sand furniture or is there a primer that works?
Thanks
Emma

Hi Emma,

We sanded the top of the table to add a bit of character to it and then put on about 3 coats of regular wood paint. We didn't sand the chairs, just gave them a quick wipe and painted straight onto them. Staplegun a bit of nice material onto the chairs and voila!

Good luck!

hiya,
you did such a great job!! they look brand new and very expensive!! amazing how paint can really brighten up faded old furniture! tudlytops gave me an old side board that i love since giving it a coat of paint. it certainly beats forking out in an expensive shop.

Sorry for the delay in responding but had a baby in Sept which has pretty much taken over my life!! :-)

The colour on the walls is 'Casanova', soft sheen and it's Woodies own brand.

Sorry for the delay in responding. We used Acrylic Satinwood paint on the table & chairs and borrowed the staple gun from my Aunt, which I believe is a regular one. You just need to put your back into it when stapling, to get the staple to go in as far as possible. I got my husband to do the stapling whilst I held the material in place... he's alot stronger than me, so worked better this way. :-)

Good luck!

We used Acrylic satinwood paint and borrowed my Aunts staple gun, which I don't think is a special fabric one. You just need to put your back into it when stapling, as you need the staples to go in as far as possible. I got my husband to do it whilst I held the material in place... :-)

Good luck with your project!

Hi, congratulations on your new baby, I have a query re the updating job you did on the table and chairs. I have an identical set of table and chairs and intend doing something to modernise them along with the rest of the room and I wondering how the paint job has stood up after a few months. I have painted a small table and locker using ordinary wall and ceiling paint but it wouldn't take much wear for them to start looking tatty (they are in the spare room so not a problem), the table and chairs will need to withstand normal wear so I'd appreciate your comments and same from anyone else.

We sanded the top of it, just to give it that old / used / country kitchen look ... Adds a bit of character to it! :-)

Hi, I was looking at your before and after pictures, what a great job. I have a table like that which gets a lot of white stains that I can't get rid of. was it easy to do, did you have to sand it all down, and what type of paint did you use. Thanks. Joan
