How do you dispose of old cooking oil?
Hi everyone, I bought a deep fat fryer last September when my hubby was laid off (Friday is chippy day in our house) and to cut down on the take aways. Because I am feeding a family of 6 I got a big one, holds 6 litres. I was just wondering what is the best way of disposing of the old oil. I know you are not supposed to pour it down the drains, so what do you do with it?

Disposing of waste cooking oil.
Thanks a mil Chris P. I didn't know that you could dispose of it in the recycling centres. I have used the recycling centre in Mullingar numerous times before knowing about Jumbletown. I will take it there in future. I would be nervous about using it in diesel cars however, I will wait until further investigations are carried out, but I will say it would be worth looking into as I know an awful lot of people just pour it down their sink. Kind regards.

disposing of waste cooking oil
Thank you for your response Waterwave also. I will start using my local recycling centre as I said to Chris P, I know a lot of people that just throw it down. One person I asked told me they keep the top part for frying and throw the mucky part (you know the bits at the bottom of the fryer) into the wheelie bin.

Well I never knew that they accepted this at recycle centres and used to put it in wheelie bin! Thanks for this enlightening post Moeby.

Hi elbo. I had given my deep fat fryer away years ago too, but the kids love chippy day which is Friday and I used to take the to the chipper for pizza and chips or whatever. When my husband was laid off from work in September it worked out cheaper to buy a new fryer and still have chippy day. (I still try and avoid it myself on a died lol). Kind regards |

It's apparently very cheap to convert your engine to take used oil and if I were driving a diesel car I'd have it done ages ago. I think a few people on here have done it and I know someone who has done it and have no probs.
