eco friendly wood preserver
 

Hi all,
I'm sure this has probably been discussed before but I'm still in the dark. I have just been looking at wood preserver to use on garden furniture and all the ronseal type products I saw had warnings about having high levels of VOC's (Volotile Organic Compounds) which apparently cause atmospheric polution. That does not sound very nice to me so I am looking for an eco-friendly alternative. I know you can use bees wax on indoor furniture but what about outdoors? I imagine any natural dark oil wood do the job but I dont want to slap it on and mess it up. Maybe linssed oil??
Anyway love to hear your ideas,

There is a good few eco friendly wood stain/oil/paint available on the market, the names don't ask me but I know I have seen them. Place in Baldoyle sells it, they'd have the name of it

Alot of ppl opt for the burn oil option as it's free on the pocket

Whats the burn oil option? Can't say Iv'e heard of it but I like the sound of the price.

Old engine oil, you pick it up out of any garage, costs nothing. The garages have to pay to dispose of it sure. The odd garage in places have a heating system devised to run off it but it gets disposed of in most places. Same goes with the old fryer oil outta the chippers

Lol but I think they do say Linseed oil is the best rather than the other two options

burnt/used oil
 

fence posts are often coated with burnt/used oil especially the ends that go into the ground. it works very well but it stinks for months afterwards and i believe it would be a relatively long time before one can plant anywhere near it.....i choose to use one of the well known brands recently, more expensive but nothing like as polluting as used oil.....

ronseal do an eco wood preserver and also fencelife is water based too so easier on the environment this one is cheaper than the ronseal and comes in lots of lovely colours...
