yes, bought end of season last year but only up and running in past few months and yet its very stagnant.
the waterfall has been run many days but about half it has been still.
do i have to dis-semble it all to clean it out, or can i put something into it?
i dont do 'toxic' but i actually cant do physical either, as am unwell at present, that is ongoing!!!yuk.

waterfall

Hi palminnie, We have a water feature that basically recirculates the same water via a pump. The movement is not enough to keep it fresh as it is the same water going round. What we do is divert the water out of the feature with the pump running--this could mean catching it in a bucket rather than let it run down the waterfall and discard this till most is gone--then fill up the water feature with fresh. Replacing at least 2/3 of the water when you notice it getting smelly is usually enough to keep it in order.

stinky water feature

HI palminnie.

My neighbour had the same problem, and resolved it by putting a cup of chlorine bleach into the water, which then circulated around and cleaned the whole thing.
You say you don't do toxic, so maybe bleach isn't the thing for you, but you can buy eco friendly bleaches now, I'm sure. Hope this helps!

Hi,
Afraid I can't help but be careful around stagnant water, it contains organisms, expecially as you said you were unwell at the moment. When cleaning the fountain out I would wear gloves and a mouth/nose mask.

stagnant water

Was talking to a bloke about his mist effect indoor fountain and I asked him how he stops the water getting smelly, his advice was that he uses distilled water to start with and uit lasts 2/3 months before he notices any slight greening of the water.

He also maintains you should keep the water feature out of direct sunlight.

Hi Salt is very good mixed with lemon juice but buy a bottle of juice as its much better value and they will circulate with the water and clean it and make it smell nice at the same time Hope this helps let us know what you go with and how it works
All the best
Lolo
