Leather Chair

Hi There,

Just thought I'd show off what can be achieved with old items posted on jumbletown. I recieved the attached old chair form Nau, a jumbletowner last year. After 18 weeks at my evening class I've got a lovely reupholstered chair. If anyone has an old chair or footstool or anything really that they have tucked away under your stairs or garage I'd love to bring back to life. Nau, if you see this I hope you are happy with my end result :-)

Hi, Womblemum, Durran, Yellowbrickroad & Dave. It's nice to know that jumbletowners look at this section. I have to admit I didnt until recently but will keep an eye in future :-) Thanks for your encouragment.

Great work ycul, you brought the old Dame back to life! I did something similar recently (not nearly as good though) I'll post pics later.

Look forward to seeing your restoration Skinnycat. I'm in two minds what to start next, will have to get my thinking cap on!!

These are my most recent treasures
the side boards need a bit of TLC still but promising no?
The beautiful chair was upholstered in a dull tapestry, I recovered it with an old linen dress I had hanging in the wardrobe, took me about 10 mins :-)

Great Work

Love your chair, unusual fab design. I'm hooked on restoration now. I got a lovely old cabinet from a jumbletowner but unfortunately he broke the glass while trying to fit it into my car. As its curved glass I've found it diffucult to find someone who can replace it. Shame. Keep up the good work. Ycul

Wow,

what an excellent, professional job, it just shows you what you can do if you put your mind to it....

If you ever fancy a holiday up here in rainy soaked ole Clones you can come and help me recover a 3+1+1+ footstool, with sun faded removable covers... I have all the equipment BUT LACK the expertise,
Great work

Wow

That is really good. Did you do a course in upholstery or are you naturally brilliant?

Bettybooboopbedoop 13-08-2008 12:11 AM

It's very satisfying to finish a piece of furniture. I used to upholster and remake furniture for a passtime before my arthritis, and you would amaze yourself with the starting piece and what you end up with. A lot of hard work and swearing believe me, but worth every bit. Good job, you'll enjoy sitting in your chair all the more now. It looks fabulous.

Beautiful Chair

Hi Ycul
I keep coming back to your chair for another look! I think its georgous. I have just spotted a chair similiar in a charity shop and their holding it for me, i'm considering it, to revamp it. How long did it take you roughly, and what kind of fabric did you use ? I thought I might use a curtain fabric that i have and love, but the guy said that, that would only be ok if it wasnt being used much as it would be durable. Would it be ok or would it have to be upolstery fabric do you think ? Im really tempted to do it, but I know its going to take lots of time, and I dont want to wreck it after paying for it. Any words of advice would be great.
Thanks cat101

melissabell 06-10-2009 04:47 PM
