Partitioning room - ideas, please

hi all, been looking at your lovely work here and was wondering if maybe one of you had any ideas on how i could partition off some space in my brothers apartment to make another room....his sittingroom is huge and has the space to do this.

now there is not a lot of money for doing this job, so have you any ideas on what i could do?

its about 3 normal size doors wide in the smallest part of the sittingroom and this is where he wants the second bedroom done.

anyone any ideas how i could do this on a budget?

Build a partition wall. make the frame with timer and then put plaster board up. You can get instructions online. If you can use a saw and drill etc you're set :)

hi millisabell

i though of that, but as good as i am with my hands, i am hopeless with measurements.

anyone any idea how to put up sliding doors?
and more importantly where i would get them?

I'm not sure if Ikea would have sliding doors big enough for your space but we got them and they went right up to the ceiling. However, sound might be an issue there and the plasterboard partition would be a better option. For partition walls, if you gave the floor width and height measurements to a builder's provider they would estimate how much you need of the wood and the plaster board. If you're not a DIY person perhaps you should enlist the help of someone who is.

Room divider

I saw a nice idea for a movable room divider, tall louvre doors hinged together. It was like one of those screens you change behind but bigger. It's not a permanent divider but might work as a temporary measure.

thanks mandolin

i've been looking for something like this, even thinking of getting some light doors in woodies and putting hinge's on them.

my brother was in a restaurant last week and seen these beaded things that went right across the wall of the restaurant and loved them.

i'm quite good with my hands so it will either be the doors or i'll be looking for loads of black and white beads lol

thanks for the suggestion.

btw love the name :-)
