Hi fellow J.T'ers,
I got this mahogany display case from a friend but I don't like dark wood and decided to give it a new life...
Primer plus several coats of gloss and some sample wallpaper turned it into this:

Thanks Melissabell, I'm delighted with it, was terrified it would go wrong!

Again Mensa, fabulous work. You got 2 items out of one!

Gormal 13-01-2012 03:13 PM

Great job. Isn't it funny how wallpaper looks better on furniture these days than on the wall!

Mensa6 13-01-2012 05:02 PM

yes Gormal, how true! Hundreds of uses for wall paper samples! I've used them to cover jars/cans to store sewing accessories such as buttons.
Have covered a lampshade with it to match the walls...:)

Awh that's a great job , looks fab. Wall paper a lovely touch. & u could change the whole look of piece with a different sample if u get fed up with it.

Well done, isn't it amazing how white paint can completely transform an item of furniture, look forward to seeing future projects...... (if you're anything like me you've been bitten by the bug!!)
Best regards,

Any pics of the lampshade you done ?

Mensa6 20-01-2012 09:15 PM

Oh post a pic when its done! The ornate flowers will be beautiful in a matching subtle shade! Good luck with yours and don't rush it!

palminnie2 21-01-2012 10:38 PM

doesnt it give you a buzz eh?
i love these sort of things, great job and yes, wallpaper has 101 uses!
and the lick of paint...and the foresight to do this of course.

Ah Palminnie, at the grand old age of 45 and spending my life bringing up the kids & working, I have finally found a real, genuine passion all for me!!Mind you, I have got himself and the 7 year old into making airfix plane models, so hopefully they will develop a love for art and crafts but particulary for recycling and revamping. Am in the middle of revamping a 1950s mirror but keeping the original features.....watch this space...:)
