Refurbished Pine Dresser

Hello JTers, I was very very lucky to get this off a kind lady from Courtown as I put an ad in the wanted section for a Pine Dresser. I couldnt believe my luck when I was contacted by the lady offering it too me.
When my husband saw it his first thoughts were "Make good fire wood"!!!!
Shock, Horror, I told him to try and see past the state it was in, and what a beautiful piece it could be... he still wouldnt accept that!! but he is a man.
So, to work I went stripping, stripping, and more stripping! no I mean the dresser. This had been hand made and quite a good job was done on it too. Who ever made it, well done.

Blimey, took ages to sort that picture out!! anyhow, as you can see this is the base part, I had to strip off all the emulsion paint that was put on it, which was a job! but patience what was needed..

This is top part, more stripping needed... all great fun though. We took the fret part off as part in the middle was broken. Good job I have a big kitchen in the cottage!

coming on nicely, all painted and new back on it, and put together.. Oh, and put my first ornament on it, it is a metal duck!! got it at the market last week for €2 I thought it was unusual.
I think the new fret looks nice not bad for the old man!! what do you think?

Well, thats the end now!! I hope you enjoyed looking at the pictures and just goes to show you what can be done.
My hubby was a great help and once he got started I think he enjoyed doing it, as he doesnt work so kept him busy. (He keeps going back to it, and re-arranging my ornaments!),,, keep telling him it is my dresser and go away!!
I just want to thank the lady that gave me this dresser,, I am really sorry have forgotten her name! but was up to my eyes moving in here!! We only moved in in February.
Can't wait until Christmas comes so I can decorate it with Christmas lights and festive bits, I will put some pics up then.
Thankyou for looking and Thankyou to Jumbletown a great place for people like myself that do not work and every little helps.
God Bless xxx

raviravi 07-04-2011 10:23 PM

Well done, it is fab and worth all the work. Good luck in your new home I hope you have managed to open all your boxes now!!

I must say what is it with men when you arrive home with something and they go: "you drove where for that, what are you thinking!" Then when it is finished they cant wait to show it off!!

TickTock 07-04-2011 11:35 PM

What a brilliant project! You should both be very proud of yourselves. By the way, I have a question, where is this great market where you pick up such interesting and pretty items? I don't live in your area, but one day I promise myself I will travel there!!

What a fab job. How long did the whole project take? I would also love to know where this market is and what day it is on? My other half is from Borris and we would have spent a lot of time in Co wexford over the years.

Hi Narizota..
Thankyou for your comments,, we got the handles in our local Co-op store luck really. €2.50 each so not expensive.
I would definitely do yours up and put some pictures up when you have finished.
Good luck :)

Thanks for all your lovely comments, makes all the hard work worth while..
And to those of you that want to know where the market is held... It is called Un-Yoke, and it is on the coast road just before Castlebridge.. between Gorey and Arklow. It is on every Sunday (as long as its not pouring with rain)!! the best bargains are to got if you get there early!!!
Nice day out on a sunny day and also go the the beach at Courtown.
Thanks again.. and best wishes to all.
:) :)

darkell09 08-04-2011 07:34 PM

I have spent many a day with you both at that Market :0) you always seem to bag all the bargains though! You have an eye for it. I got a lovely antique cake stand there.
Dresser looks really nice, il get sewing tonight & make you the hanging heart for it :0). X

psj 08-04-2011 08:38 PM

Ah yes a difficult place to find if you don't know where u r goin! Was there only once. Had a lovely time and had icecream in the petrol station round the corner from there! Other half knew about it!
