Organisation to take old school books?

Does anyone know of an organisation/charity etc that takes old school books? Maybe for schools in the 3rd World or something.

I have some left that have not been taken by anyone and are more likely not on the curriculum anymore. My local charity shop doesn't take school books and I hate throwing them out...although it would be into the recycling bin at least:)

There's no use putting them onto schoolbookexchange.ie either.

All suggestions welcome

Hi mrsl, have you thought of asking your local school if they would like them. Maybe they could use them as extra material for resource classes or something.

Where are you located? I'm a home-schooler and have kids at all stages so your books would be much appreciated by me (but probably not the kids!) :-)

I work for youthreach and we're always looking for books especially since the cuts - if you have a local youthreach i'm sure they would gladly take them off your hands

thanks Louise, I'll try them

Thanks for the suggestion Grafada, but these are either not being used now or are not the most recent edition.

Hi there

Hi guys

Was watching the Afternoon show this afternoon on RTE and it mentioned about the scoolbookechange.ie website which a father set up coz he was sick of forking out all the money during the summer holidays - he has 4 kids in secondary school so you should check it out.

Anyway they asked if anyone else had any good ideas about saving money/recycling and I sent in the link for jumbletown so hopefully we should get some more JT'ers before long.

Congrats on being able to recycle the books
