Hi collsy,

It depends by what you mean by "out-of-date" and ads "no longer available still being posted".

Members are expected to manage/update their own ads. Once they've marked an item as Taken, the system automatically removes it from the public forum. JumbleTown's updating policy can be found near the top of all the Givers' forums, a summary being:

1. "Available" ads/threads must be updated by Givers within 3 days of a Taker having expressed an interest; otherwise the ad/thread will be removed from the Public Forum/the Board to Admin's (hidden) Archive;

2. "Reserved" ads/threads must be updated every 6 days; otherwise Admin will consider the item to be Taken and remove it from the Public Forum to Admin's (hidden) Archive.

More details can be found...here:

Every few days, Admin prunes the different forums/listings of ads that have not followed the above guidelines. This often entails having to read every line of every post in every thread in order to ascertain the status of the Giving and Taking process. If we find the ad has not been updated, then we archive it. (Archived ads can be reposted on request.)

Pruning the forums is a bit like painting the Golden Gate Bridge -- once we've finished, it's time to start all over again, so at any given time there may be a few forums that need pruning. So far today, the top few forums have been pruned -- the rest will be pruned later this evening and in the wee hours of the morning.

At the bottom of each forum, there may be a few ads that are a few months old. This is because we have no specific time-limit re: the length of time an ad can stay on the forum. In other words, it can stay listed as long as it takes to find a Taker, which may be a few months. We are willing to host an ad such as this to ensure the item has every chance of been re-used/life-cycled rather than recycled or dumped. This is in line with the environmental ethos of JumbleTown.

Thanks for the feedback.
