When getting married, couples consult professionals about the event, the catering, the clothes, the hairdresser, the florist, the car hire company, the estate agent, the jeweller, the religious/registrar, the list goes on.

If anyone is considering entering into a (someone please think of another word for it!) 'partnership', could I recommend you have a chat with another professional, a solicitor, regarding what really happens regarding property and children in the case of break-up, or death. I just suggest this as I've heard horror stories.
