Default Log Box inspired by Eibhlin :)

Hi,

I really wanted one of those brass log boxes like Eibhlin had on here and I found one in a local charity shop for just €5!!! It needed alot of work though, it had been painted with black high gloss and had alot of debris caught in the paint, it had rough hinges and some of the brass was coming off and the chip board in the lid was badly damaged where the original hinges had been ripped out. I was going to strip off the paint but I realised Black would suit my living room better.

I sanded the paint to get rid of the debris caught in the paint and took the brass off the lid and removed the hinges. I then just flipped the chipboard and put the weakened part to the front put the lid back together and put in extra pins to hold the brass in place where it had been coming off. I bought new hinges and gave it 2 coats of matt black paint I had and then gave it a coat of egg shell varnish. I re-attached the lid chain and voila!!! :)

Piece of advise if you do work on one of these be careful with the edge of the brass it's very sharp and I sliced my hand on it!! ;)

Hi Melissabell, they say imitation is the greatest form of flattery, but to be inspired by someones work and then make it your own is surely much better. Well done, a lovely job and really matches your decor. Eibhlin.
