You can buy spray paint in Woodies that is specifically for stoves (solid fuel) and bbqs so definitely heat resistant and durable. It is matt black and actually handles a wipe down quite well. It's about €11.99 last time I looked but I may be wrong on that one.

i am watching this with beady eyes...i have a similar situation :) and cannot afford to replace.
but this suggestion is giving me hope!

Default I had one of those...

Ripped it out and replaced fireplace with a stove, but that costs a bit.

I think you can tile over tile, as a stop-gap measure.

Clubby believe it or not I think it is a really nice fireplace and so would a lot of other people. Can it be removed and sold (not to me, don't need one)? Would hate to see you painting it.

We have just replaced our fireplace with a stove and want to get rid of the mahogany and marble if you're interested. Drogheda area
