Hi done the same job last year. Had to paint stumps with diesel and roundup really does work. Same with some of the trees previous owners planted trees in the garden has unsuitable with height and root growth. cut these down over the years and drilled holes and painted the above on them. was able to remove stumps with axe to under the level of grass so can mow over them.

Default firs & thorns

Hi there, evergreens will not come back if you cut them down as their life is in the green and they dont put out new shoots. Thorns need to be pulled up by the roots--be careful there may be a root at each end of a long thorn as they put down new roots every time they touch the ground. You are right--they will come back if you just cut them back so get the roots out. You say you are in a rented house--is it not landlords job to sort out the garden? Do you need landlords permission to get rid of trees?

hi ya i cut down the firs last year and can see them stating to get new stubs with green on them. ya its a rented house, but its in the country and its more of the field and lane. they are not trees just bushes. My landlord wouldn't do much for me any way.
