Default Garden waste

Where does it go? I have twigs, leaves etc. Is it illegal to have a garden fire?

Help please!

Default garden waste

Here in Dublin I believe you can take garden waste to the council in St. Annes Park. Im sure your local council will have this facility.

My friend takes all her garden hedge clippings to S. Annes.

Hope this helps

Default Garden waste

Hi There, Just wanted to ask if you have a small space in your garden that you could put a composter in as that would solve your problem of garden waste and also give you plenty of free organic compost for next year. You can also put all your fruit and veg peelings in all winter and that saves on the bin weight charge. Hope that helps all the best Lolo

Check with your local authority to see if they sell compost bins at a reduced price. Longford county council sell them for around €20 but they cost around €50 - €60 in garden centres.

Hi Tootsie,

To the best of my knowledge, garden fires are illegal.

Links to all of the Local Authorities can be found at the top and bottom of JumbleTown's Home Page. Click on your Local Authority and then click on their Environment section where you'll find specific information for your area.

You can make your own composter too. The former owner of our house made it of a few planks and chipboard and it worked fine for me for the last three years. I just always forget to turn it a few times a year...
Only thing the twigs probably should be chopped or shredded before putting them on the heap. I have a range though, and i leave them to dry for a while and then use them to start the fire.
And there is a fine example of recycling in Amateur Gardening magazine issue september 29 2007, p.59. Peter Seabrook made his composter of old wire frames lined with cut-open polythene compost bags (black side outwards).

Default Thankyou

For you replies. I've put a call out for a compost bin here on JT!

If I don't get one, I'll beg the council and/or show a bit o' leg (don't want to pay if I can help it ; )
