Broken projector

Hi everybody, we bought a secondhand projector off a guy just before Xmas. Saw it working and delighted to get a bargain. Alas, after poor hubby set it up it wouldn't work. He's VERY disappointed, is a bit of a wildlife documentary enthusiast and was looking forward to seeing it on the big screen. We left it into the local electrical shop where their repair man had a look at it but no joy. He said it needs a replacement part ( can't remember the name of it now ) but he can't find anyone who deals with parts for it, even online. Its an Infocus make and we'd be extremely grateful for any help. Anything to keep himself happy.....!

Hi Mickey, many thanks for your help. Looked at each of the websites you suggested but they all seem to be in USA. Really need to find somebody in Ireland but thanks again.

I realise that - but sometimes I use US companies and they work out even cheaper than trying to get stuff done/fixed here. No amount of shopping local will help me to afford some of the stuff here compared to getting parts or whole items from the US or even the UK. Bear them in mind though - even if it's just to pick their brains so you'll be better informed when you take the projector back to the vendor? Was it a private sale or retailer - you do have recourse with things like this - consumer rights? Even with 2nd hand goods I'm sure....

I have an Infocus 4805 projector and when the bulb blew I got a new one shipped from the USA with no hassles. Cost me $320.99 plus $30 insured shipping, which was €229 at the time. There was nobody who would sell one in Ireland and the English companies wanted €400+ for a bulb (yes, projector bulbs are expensive!!). I wouldn't be afraid to buy spare parts from the USA, provided you buy from a reputable source. This doesn't include eBay in my opinion. I got the bulb from www.projectorking.com.

Hi cianer, many thanks for your reply and apologies for not replying sooner but other things got in the way and the projector not top of the list, for me anyway.... himself might say different! Don't know if it is the bulb or not that's gone; there's just a light on and no picture. We know absolutely zilch about it. Is it the bulb that generally goes and what is the life of the bulb?

If you have light but no picture its not the bulb anyway. You could try emailing the projectorking lads with the details of your problem and they might have the part.
