I recently solved this problem in my kitchen and have not seen any fruit flies since. we buy alot of fruit and i keep some on the kitchen table and the rest in a larder. This is where my fruit flies would gather. I discovered the plums, bananas & pears were the main fruit drawing the flies so i took out the plums and pears and put them into the fridge.I left the bananas out.I gathered some lavendar from the garden and parceled it up in some kitchen paper.Placed some in the larder and fruit bowl and no fruit flies since.

cider vinegar in a bowl along with a squirt of washing up liquid. Cover the bowl with cling film and poke some holes in it with the tines of a fork. The fruit flies are attracted to the scent of the vinegar, and the washing up liquid reduces the surface tension of the vinegar so that they die, er, humanely.

I tried the lavender hint and definitely less flies, also the kitchen smells lovely from the lavender. If this doesn't get them all I will try the cider vinegar.

I don't have any lavender in the garden, neither do my friends, but I was wondering if burning lavender oil would do the same trick?

Just 2 say the wine/cider vinegar in glass with cling film over n holes in works an absolute treat

Another way to get rid of flies is to get a bottle make a paper cone, invert it put it in the bottle with the cider mixture. They can't get out one in.
