new house new problems

twin moved a week ago into a bungalow.
she has just realised the en suite toilet gets very blocked and the in the main bathroom she has noticed stuffed kitchen towels all around the back of the piping leading from its toilet, she is terrified that this may be a big plumbing job, she is not exactly flush with cash, excuse pun :( do people feel that floors may have to be dug to get to the probs or is this an inside job that can be resolved?

Hi There,
We had similar issues with our main loo,the water level kept rising to the top & threatened to come over the edge.We got the kitchen plunger,& emptied out a lot of the water first & then plunged away,hubby was in the out side drain ,with a wire drain hose thing & was plunging away on the outside.Between us both we go rid of the blockage which was caused by the builder putting rubble,cement,plaster etc down the loo.......grrrrrrrr

That sorted it for us,so hopefully this will help your sister.
As for the kitchen roll behind the toilet, a long shot but may be the plaster left a big gaping hole around the pipes may be its to prevent the draught coming through...Is it a new build can she get the builder/developer to come back & have a look at it.

its in a small estate and she bought it from a seller living in belgium who had it rented out.
its a nice bungalow but these things she hadnt anticipated, she got an architect in, maybe he just didnt go on his knees to see the wads of paper nor did he go to the toilet!
ah well, shall pass this info on and maybe she will be a bit relieved that the problems may not be as bad as she is anticipating

Hope your sister got her problem sorted out....just read your post a few mins ago for the first time...ironic since today all those people had to leave their appt block because of the builder doing such a botch job on their appartments.....Id say there are thousands of homes around the country in dire condition because of not enough regulation and builders doing shoddy work.....

Hi just seen your post, most blockages can be cleared from the outside or inside there should be no need for digging up floors etc. just some drain rods you can get in a hire shop, a plunger and elbow grease.
As for the paper stuffed at the back of the toilet i have seen this before it could just be the toilet was replaced and there now a hole at the back where there was a draft, she would need to remove the paper to see, a can of expanding foam will fix that cost about 10/15 euro in a good hardware store.
If i lived closer or am in the area anytime would go take a look at it for her. Myself and my brother have done quite a few jobs like this recently where a supposed builder has done something and took shortcuts.

Is the house connected to a mainline sewer system or does the property have a septic tank. The reason I ask is this could decide the best way to start with the problem. It might be that the drains only need a good roding, but a septic tank might need a more proactive approach

its been cured, evidently it was builders rubble all sorts of things!!! cleared and all is well with the world there.
