Hi folks,
I'm sure several people on the forum will know what I should do....
On a stormy night, I checked all the rooms, and found a small stain on the wallpaper at a join, and on the ceiling above it.
It was traced to flashing on the chimney which has been sorted out, and the wallpaper dried out perfectly. However, there is a slight stain on the ceiling which is only 2 years old, since it was replaced during a building job.
The stain is so slight, you can't see it from the door, but I think if I paint over it, the stain will come back.
Can anyone confirm this, and if so, is there some sort of sealer I need to paint on first?

You can paint it with stain block before you repaint the damaged area. This comes in a small tin to paint on or there is a spray on version. If these are too expensive, gloss paint can also be used. Paint the stain with white gloss paint which is oil based so stain won't show through. When dry, paint with white emulsion. The reason stain keeps showing through is because emulsion is water based. Hope this helps.

Thanks Eibhlin,
I knew someone here would know the answer.
I'll try that.

Or damp seal it costs about €9-10 for a small tin, strange texture but dries matt

Thanks Gormal, I'll keep that in mind too. The area is very small, which is particularly annoying, so I'll go for the solution that costs least in the end (but that meets one of the criteria I've found here).
