Best way to clean old Dutch oak dining chairs, without chemicals.

Metholated spirits and fine wire wool. Put some of the spirits into a container (as it gets dirty) and dip a piece of your wire wool into it, rub along the wood in the direction of the grain. Wipe off with kitchen paper. Keep going till the kitchen paper is more or less clean and then sand lightly with fine grade sandpaper.
