My next door neighbours were changing their bathroom and had a pair of shower doors that they were about to take to the dump. I offered to take them and had my husband make a frame for them so that they could be used as a cold frame for tender plants. Tha frame was made out of scraps of 2"x3" lengths of timber screwed together and the shower doors were screwed to this frame. They still slide up and down so that you can ventilate the plants and of course the glass is safety glass so no problems there. To buy a cold frame this size would be well over a hundred euro and as we had the wood and screws it cost us nothing.
Well done that's a great idea!

Well done Moloney 2. Just showed this thread to hubby and as we also have two shower doors abandoned he has gone off to start on the cold frame. Sincere thanks for sharing this with us all. Keep up the good work. Kind regards Mary

unfortunately I do not have a digital camera so no pictures! Just a suggestion for the ends of the cold frame... you can always leave it open at the ends but what I am doing is recycling old plastic signage from an auctioneer as it is weather proof and of course there are still a multitude of these thrown away in the roadsides .... you can always wait for the next election as they use the same material in their signs.
