disposing of kerosene

would anyone know how i'd dispose of kerosene,the oil tank from the previous owner was left without a lid so now i have about 300 litres of of oil/water that i need to get rid of before i can fill the tank again,
any advice or suggestion would be great,as im at a loss as to what to do with it,i have tried googling it but didn't really find a solution

Oil floats on water so I think that you would be able to bleed the water from the tank,As soon as you smell or see oil stop the bleed and what should be left in the tank is Oil.

thanks for the info,but would the water still be contaminated by the oil,how would i get rid of it,i wouldn't imagine its safe to let it out in the garden or down a drain???

you could go very basic and put the water into a barrel with sawdust or alot of old paper let the water evaporate and burn of the remains. not much help in this weather but would be better than pouring it into the earth.

i ended up having to get a company to come and pump out the tank,its quite expensive but at least they dispose of it safely,
