Thanks Erica - I will do that. |
Think the trick is to drill the glass very slowly. Like drilling tiles.

bottle drilling
hi,
you wrap the bottle in a thick cloth and fix it upside down in a vice or something so that it wont move. then get a drill with very slow speed and a small diamond tipped drill bit just big enough for the flex, make a well around where the hole will be and pour some baby oil or water into it and away you go! its tedious work cos the last part can be tricky with the bottle sometimes cracking or the hole breaking into a much larger one. if this happens discard the bottle and start again cos the bottle will eventually crack. (and so will you!) and most importantly : WEAR EYE/ HAND PROTECTION! another idea is to heat the bottle around the base and dip it quickly into cold water, the base will then drop off. be careful with sharp edges tho and sand the edges slowly with damp glass paper. there is a very fine glass dust which comes off and is very detrimental to lungs... cough cough. |
Freebies Of Jars

Oh great....thanks! Gonna go check it out now!

Could you get restaurants to hold onto the empty wine bottles for you?
|
That's actually a really good idea....
im not doing it on a big scale (at the moment....! :P) so im just asking friends to save any bottles they have...especially red wine ones cos of the colour. :) and im making sure i get to drink some myself! :P |
or hang about at the bottle recycling banks and save ppl the effort of sorting their bottles... don't get caught for loitering tho!!

Fabulous stuff, LeLapin. The paintwork on the green bottle is particularly effective. Keep it up!

Hi, love your creations.
You can also paint clip frames, to make picture frames. Paint behind the design with white or silver paint, to prevent the picture from showing through the design. I had a white framed mirror, that I painted silver. The I outlined rectangles all around the frame. I started dropping glass paint in bands from dark to light. and they marbled together. My friends thought I had tiled it with expensive tiles. I don't have any pictures to show, as all my creations stayed in the UK, when I moved over here. Hope to get started again soon. The best way I found to practice with the lead outliner, was to place a sheet of acetate over a sheet of paper with straight lines and other shapes printed on it. |
Painted Bottles
They look lovely. Would be lovely for Christmas with candles in.
