simple MDF unit topped with repurposed placemats

Hi,

This is a pretty simple piece I've just finished, I can only do small bits at the moment as I'm about to pop!!!!

My brother in law made this simple shelving for me for the corner of my kitchen out of MDF to fit the cat litter tray and my recycling basket. (I'm on the look out for an orange one of these baskets)

I painted it to match my kitchen units, sealing the raw edges with pva glue first and putting filler in the screw holes to cover them up. It still looked a bit boring so I had these wooden place mats that I'd got on sale years ago and never really used. I took them apart as they wouldn't sit properly and were too narrow. They were just woven together with a plastic string.

I got a big multi-pack of superglue in the pound shop and glued the wooden bits on individually like mosaic tiles and spaced them so I'd have an even edge. It only took 2 and a quarter placemats altogether so I've lots left over if I need something to match.

When they were glued I got grey tile grout that I had left over from tiling my bathroom floor and grouted between them to give a cleaner, more even surface as I didn't want dust and dirt gathering between them and Voila!!!!!
