Repurposing: Broken Washing Machine -- New Serving Bowl
 

Hi All

My washing Machine was on its last legs, and then the door broke...But look I've Given it a new job... It now makes a new Serving Dish.........Great for Fried Rice ( see photo) or Mixed Salad or Fruit...or whatever, So even if your washing machine is ready for the skip...wait and see what parts you can re-use. This is another Door That I got from a friend, I'm going to take this one apart too and see what I can use it for...any suggestions?

Brilliant idea Mammy. Have seen this done before. And you got a good sized serving bowl from it. How about this for using other one. Place a piece of florist foam in centre of bowl line outside of foam with limes/lemons/small apples fill with water and then decorate foam with flowers for decorative floral arrangement. It looks really nice when you see the fruit around bowl and flowers on top.

My brother made a bbq out of the drum from his, when it broke.

The drum of a washing machine makes an excellent brazier/bbq. You just need to make a stand for it, e.g. a large pot/planter filled with sand

Hi, they make great domes to cover left over food to keep the flies off!
Or as a small individual greenhouse for your seedlings, a dog's water or feeding bowl and also good for soaking teatowels in bleach.

Great stuff, Mammy! It's zany but it works! The salads will wash and toss themselves!

The drum makes a brilliant planter, put some big things on top and pop some border seeds in the holes and it should fill out nicely.

That reminds me...I never put up that picture of my light shade collandar. I'll get one and put it up. I wish I could take the kudos/blame for such an unusual idea but alas...I got it from Laurence Llewellen Bowen!

Great Stuff Guys....I have decided to give this project to the kids to see what they can come up with...I have their heads done in with energy saving projects in our home at the moment...please keep the ideas coming in as the kids need them...My youngest wants to make a fish bowl....older lad wants to make a set of drums( head to recycling centers to look for discarded washing machine drums)....Whats next?

a friend of mine put them in the side of his van as he changes in there when surfing also he sleeps in the van sometimes so he puts candles in them lol must get a pic ok another friend used her glass from washing machine as a porthole into their kids room its really nice she has a rope around the outside of it really looks like a porthole of a ship

Fish bowl
 

Hi, great idea with the "bowl"!
It brings back memories of when we were kids and we won a goldfish in our local fair. When we arrived home with the little fishy in his bag we realised that we had nowhere to put him! My Dad had an old washing machine out the back and removed the door and hey presto our little fish had a home. He stayed in it for all of his life too!

The bowl is just a brilliant idea. Sorry now I didn't keep the bowl from our old machine a few years ago.

Wow, this a great way to repurpose the washing machine door! I will certainly keep it in mind when our machine breaks down. I wonder is it oven proof?
