Garden Gate From Pallets. (**Many grateful thanks go to 'chucken1' for the pallets**)

We used for our nice new gate! We badly needed it to keep our dog to her side of the dividing fence.

We also made two side gates for each side of the house. We learned a lot in the process about the different types of pallets, and how some were easier to dismantle than others.

We put a couple of coats of cresote on the side gates to preserve them, and fence life paint on the dividing gate.

Thanks again to 'chucken1' and their advice on splitting the wood.

I think I have caught the palleting bug, and hope its the first of many projects. I hope to make a few small things and will look for inspiration from other projects people have done :)

Marvellous work there! Looks really professional, think I might borrow this idea myself if I can find pallets down here in the south east!
Any tips on scrounging free pallets would be greatly appreciated by anyone!

Thank you, It's really worth the effort when you see the results. I was lucky to be given some pallets to start me off by a kind JT'er called Chucken1 who also told me that the Co-Op superstores give them if you ask, but I don't think there is any in your area. you might be able to source some from factories in industrial estates, they might be glad to get rid of some because they might be overrun with them LoL

The chicken wire was bought from Homebase for about €30 but I'd say you might find better in ordinary hardware stores, I find everything seems dear in the big name hardware shops.

I hope to continue making things with pallets now I've caught the pallet bug, I'm going to try my hand at making a garden bench and maybe table.

I wish you the best of luck if you decide to make stuff from them, you should post a thread with some photos :)

I got the bolts I needed from the Co-Op superstores thanks again to advice from Chucken1, I feel like a bit of a donkey because I thought that I needed expanding bolts which cost €3.50 - €4 each but Large screw in anchors do the trick just as well and cost only €0.69 each and €0.49 each for the wall plug anyway heres what I did :)

I anchored the piece of 2X4 to the wall using the screw in anchors

marked out the hinges and fitted them

When the gate was hanging I reset the fence post by setting it in concrete, making sure it was level by tension tying it with pegs into the ground to keep the level while setting, I left it like tyhis overnight to set.

The next day I attached the locking bolt and chamferred out a section of the post to put the locking bolt receiver on since the post was round, I then attached a piece of wood using glue and screws, It was really coming together :)
