Damson tree runners/suckers
 

I has two Damson trees in the garden which I cut down recently as they were sending out runners/suckers everywhere. How can i get rid of these? They are growing like mad.
My main concern, apart from the nuisance , is that they are all around the septic tank and I am worried they will grow through the pipes.
