broken digital camera an update. Thank you everyone
I have a canon digital camera. It's two years old and was working perfectly until it had a minor knock. No visible damage, but now fails to switch on. Minimum charge for repair is 200 Euro, so not worth it. Any self-help ideas??? I have nothing to lose by meddling as it is useless as it is.
Thanks in advance Jog |
what make and model and what happened to it

that happened a camera here... the one I got OH as a pressie, I had a wee accident with it one day & it would not for the life of it turn on. Left it aside for about a week until he came along looking to use it & it wouldn't work, he went & replaced the batteries in it & it worked perfect yet I tried that the day of it's accident!
Them digital cameras are as weird! |
It's a PowerShot SD 630. It fell from a kitchen worktop. I broke its fall, so probably only properly fell the last few inches. Landed on soft vinyl, so I was surprised that it suffered.
Thanks, Jennie. Recharging the battery was all I could think of doing, but I'm afraid that didn't work. Still hoping for inspiration. |
I'd really like this PLEASE
Hello.
I'd be very interested in the camera Please. Where do you live? It doesn't say on your add. Many Thanks. Robert. |

digital camera
Hi, my digital camera was not working after a fall and I had a good look at it and noticed that a tiny bit of the cover that holds in the battery was broken off and it was not closing all the way and when I held it closed it worked. Try putting tape on the cover to hold it closed, it might work. If I could only find mine at the moment that'id be great!

Thanks Etana
Got my hopes up there for a minute, but I'm afraid that wasn't the problem. The annoying thing is, it was a very slight fall, and I'm surprised that it doesn't work now. Any more ideas anyone? Am tempted to drop it again to see if it will fix itself! |
have you tried the contacts on the battery?maybe they are not in place from the bang, a camera I had had this problem with the Duracell batteries which pushed the contacts to far.Its worth a try if nothing else.

I'm sorry I wouldn't have a clue but have you tried this site...
http://www.fixya.com/ You might find a solution on there. Best of luck, colmsmum. |

Try taking out the batt completly and put in new ones even if not rechargeable ones(as i have done) also take out the mem card and put it back in just in case both were loose. Hope it works...

The same happened to a digital camera I had. I rolled up two small
Balls of aluminum fail and taped them with sellotaped to the contacts of the Battery replaced it in its compartment and the camera worked |
Thanks everyone. I really appreciate all the suggestions, but unfortunately nothing has worked yet. Will keep trying as it is REALLY annoying me.

Thank you all so much. This is the full story, and what happened next:
Two years ago, I had a Canon digital camera, which stopped working without reason. Took it to the repair shop where they said it would cost more to repair than to buy a new one. Had been happy with camera until then, so bought another Canon. When that broke last week, after a minor accident, you can see why I was not very happy. That's when I turned to my friends on Jumbletown. I tried all suggestions, but sadly, nothing worked. Then I turned to fixya.com (many thanks Colmsmum). Tried all their suggestions but they didn't work either. Then I spotted a small link, which led me to investigate further. It turns out that the original camera was part of a faulty batch, all of which have been recalled. Luckily, the dead camera was still in a drawer, so I hauled it out, phoned Canon, and they have agreed to repair or replace that one free of charge. They also agreed to have a look at the newer one. So they both leave in the post tomorrow, and I am guaranteed that at least one will be returned in working order, for free! What can I say???? Isn't the Internet (and especially Jumbletown)a wonderful place!! |
Will do, but they said it will take over four weeks, so don't hold your breath.
