Help! Need to divide room in two
I have a long narrow room which i want to divide into two areas.
Ideas of ways of doing this much appreciated. xminnie pal |
More info Please
Hi ya.
Do you intend this to be a permanent devide? Do you want to have total privacy in each room? Must they be sound proof? Do you want to have a doorway between the rooms? Are you looking to do this without much expense? |
Divider
No, it will not be a permanent divider. I used a screen but it cut me into too small a box of a bedroom so i was thinking of a half divide to give me a feeling of more space, but who wants to see a working area from the bed!!
the screen too blocked light and was claustrophobic. Money is tight, and that is why i have posted. I want to make a suitable attractive divide. When one goes to bed, its supposed to be a relaxing event, seeing my work, does not give me the feeling of the 'cut off' that a bedroom should allow. xxminnie pal |
Hi minnie pal,
You could use roller blinds.I saw this in a mag showing how to seperate two childrens bedrooms.Or a light curtain.Or a shelving unit, something like the one in argos pg 203 (11) .If its too tall just turn it on its side. Hope this helps, Regards Scrabble |
looked up online catalogue
Was it the 'room divider' which could take ornaments and books. It looks good, it was priced E/£84. That might be it. I WOULD turn it on its side. If it wasnt too deep, so as not to take up too much room, thats a great idea you gave me.

I have the new argos and its priced at 124.99 euro.I know thats expensive but i thought of the idea because you would not have to put something on all of the shelves so it would still give you a sence of space.

Sorry, just saw that you looked it up online. The code is 610/8896.

Hi Minnie,
I was out in the new Ikea in ballymun the other day and they have loads of nice room dividers, think the one I was looking at was €69 and they also have nice panel curtains which you hang from the ceiling so you might want to check them out also. Narki |
Narki Barki!
Now i can take that!
I was going to take a trip to that Ikea! cheaper it seems than argos. Great excuse to spend money i havent really got, like the rest of the nation. NAMA NAMA, xminnie pal |
hi minnie pal
i know this may sound like a daft idea, but why dont you look for a couple of those beaded thingys.
if you get them in a coloured glass, it will not block all the light, but will stop you seeing the kitchen from the bedroom. i did this in my bedroom years ago, because i didnt like sharing with my sis. mind you they were plactic streamers at the time, but i thought they were great. just an idea. tas |
beaded thingys
No its not a daft idea. I loved the ones of transparent bottle ends, would love to consider something like this actually.xminnie pal

hi minipal,
yes, i love the coloured glass ones!!!
and when the sun shines through the window, it will shing through the beads and look fab. they are not too expensive and east to put up and take down :-) |
where can i find?
Tasmin,
would you be able to tell me where I would get glass type dividers? I was also thinnking of muslin. its light and airy but i like the idea of glass somehow. x for now, minnie pal. |
i'll check it out for you.
i'm sure you might be able to get these in the indian shops. or if u knew how to drill a small hole in the stones you could make them yourself. all you would need is a lat of wood, loads of thin string/plastic string and glue, and a couple of eye hooks and loads and loads of the beads...ohhh and loads of patients lol. wouldnt mind giving that a try myself lol |
