Instead of throwing out your old pillow, wash it at 60 degrees to kill any dustmites or germs, then use the filling to make new cushion pads to replace cushions that have gone flat. Also, for people who are into patchwork / quilting, some old pillows are just a roll of polyester wadding that has been rolled up. I discovered this to my surprise and delight...I just unrolled the wadding carefully and I had enough for 8 pram quilts. Much cheaper than buying wadding in fabric shops!

I forgot to mention that you can also use the pillow stuffing for making soft toys.

also old duvets can be recycled in a similar way. just cut them to size and cover with material ie old sheet.

I put an old one in a bin liner and use it to stuff the chimney to keep out draughts, I left a string dangling down though to remind me to pull it out when I start lighting the fire again. M.
