Need A New Kitchen & More Storage?

If you need more storage in you Kitchen you could get extra cabinets fitted if you have the space or you could just add some shelving to the sides of the upper units for storing your delf/cups etc

This isn’t a great picture, the angle is not great but hopefully you should get the general idea.

This was an ancient dark brown kitchen that a neighbour was throwing out; it was rescued and reused. The units were painted white; shelving was added to the sides of the upper units on both sides and also painted white.

There are two shelves on either side of the units so you end up with four extra shelves. I also added a strip of wood to the wall for utensils but in retrospect I think this looks a bit messy. You can also add cup hooks under the shelves per photo.

See for yourselves.

Hi, those dark wood kitchen often look fabulous (as do yours) with just a lick of paint to brighten them up. Lovely kitchen

Hi Rachel, I love the shelf with all the things hanging on hooks--really adds to the vintage, cottagey look, Eibh.

Kitchen Units

Hi Rachelirl, I just love your units and added shelves. Would love to know the type of paint you used as I have those brown units and would love to paint them. Well done again on your great work.

Hi there,

I just used a few coats of ordinary gloss or satin paint. I can't really remember as I painted them a few years ago. If you use a mini gloss roller and some good quality/new paint brushes, you will get the best effect.

Try and leave as long as possible between coats as you can e.g. 12-24 hours and unscrew press doors partially to get in to those hard to reach areas. You can always re-screw them back when the paint is dry.
