I was reading through an Alan Titchmarsh book I got from Pepperpixie and he does a section on alpines, I could copy a few pages and post them to you if you would like, just send me a PM with your details (give me a few days). I think they are easy enough to grow they just need plenty of grit worked in with the soil he had a nice idea of growing them in a sink. I know I saw some in B & Q. Re. bamboo I have some in my garden but picked out some that is clump forming cos some of them are very invasive so be careful and to be used carefully in a small garden.
