![]() Hi Everyone,
The production team of the dating-show "Take Me Out" has contacted me looking for contestants. One proviso: you have to be a freegan. "We are looking for single guys and girls from the Freegan community who may be interested in taking part in the show which will be airing later this year. If anyone would like to take part, they just need to email takemeoutboys@thames.tv or takemeoutgirls@thames.tv and they will automatically be sent an application. Feel free to spread the word to any friends and family too!" So, there you have it, guys. If you're a freegan, why not give it a shot!? Regards Chris P Admin ------------------------------------------------------------------- PS. For those of you not familiar with freeganism, here's some info: From Wikipedia: Freeganism is the practice of reclaiming and eating food that has been discarded. One third of the world's food is wasted[1]—in shops, restaurants, farms, factories and homes—and freegans and Freeganism are often seen as part of a wider "anti-consumerist" ideology, and freegans often employ a range of alternative living strategies based on limited participation in the conventional economy and minimal consumption of resources. Freegans "embrace community, generosity, social concern, freedom, cooperation, and sharing in opposition to a society based on materialism, moral apathy, competition, conformity, and greed."[2] The word "freegan" is a portmanteau of "free" and "vegan";[3] not all dumpster divers are vegan, but the ideology of veganism is inherent in freeganism. Freeganism started in the mid 1990s, out of the antiglobalization and environmentalist movements. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freeganism ------------------------------------------------------------ Apparently, a third of the food in Ireland and half the food in the US ends up in bins. Here's the tapescript of an interview with freegan, Alf Montague, and Matt Cooper of Today FM. http://www.indymedia.ie/article/87771 ----------------------------------------------------------- Finally, here's a link to a couple of videos about freegans in JumbleTown's GreenTube forum: http://www.jumbletown.ie/forums/showthread.php?t=82791 Regards Chris P Admin Photo: A group of freegans foraging for food in New York.
