If you have a bit of patience and are not looking for an instant garden you can save a lot. We recently found 10 Rowan trees, young saplings, selling for €20 in a garden centre, and 5 medium dogwood for €14. The owner said they are generally bought by farmers for the 'reps' scheme, replanting hedgerows. We have bought single dogwood in a pot for 6.99 before and a couple of maturer rowan trees for €40 each. Now I have 10 more at €2 each and once I stake them they will grow just as well.
Also check the reduced trolley for bargains eg, they sell off bulbs at this time of year, primrose and primulas and cyclamen. These will all come back next year, so invest now while they're cheap, plant them, let them die off and look forward to new growth in your garden next spring.
