alpines

anyone know about alpines and most importantly where i might pick some up at a good price in the dun laoghaire area or i will travel for these too, i have to say.
want to know too, about bamboo as well.

Hi Minnie Pal

I was reading through an Alan Titchmarsh book I got from Pepperpixie and he does a section on alpines, I could copy a few pages and post them to you if you would like, just send me a PM with your details (give me a few days). I think they are easy enough to grow they just need plenty of grit worked in with the soil he had a nice idea of growing them in a sink. I know I saw some in B & Q. Re. bamboo I have some in my garden but picked out some that is clump forming cos some of them are very invasive so be careful and to be used carefully in a small garden.

Did an inventory of the potted plants collected in past few weeks and the alpines i got today at Powerscourt, they are on offer there at half price!

check out alpines on ur internet and books in ur local library.

B&Q do an alpine section for 5 plants for €7.
An alpine garden is ideally a gravel/rock garden area but they will thrive in a belfast sink if u could get ur hands on one. They are low spreading plants that mind themselves. some have beautiful flowers also. some self seed such as saxifage (check spelling) and houseleeks have bulb lets that you just cut off with a root and plant up.
