Default Revamping a rocking chair please help!

Hi all, my friend had an old wooden rocking chair in his shed he was doing a clear out and thowing it in a skip when i rescued it and now i want to revamp it as it doesnt look great. But i have no idea where to start, i'v never done anything like this before so im looking for any tips on what to do with it? Start by sanding it or??

Any help would be great, i think this piece of furniture could look very well brought back to its former glory :)

Thanks for all your help!

Default revamp

First remove all paint or varnish either by sanding or chemical paint remover. Then see what needs repairing eg arm rocker etc. Try to match up the existing timber with your new stock. Bring piece to your local timber merchant. You may be lucky and get some ends and cut-offs. After that it is a matter of copying. Hopefully you will have a good half of chair to work off. Stain, if required, the finished product to give you an even finish. Finish of with numerous coats of polyurethane varnish with a light sanding between coats.
Great winter project and good luck.

Default Revamp

Can you put a pict of rocker up? Somebody else on this site has already restored a rocking chair and it looked great.
Regards, B.
