Default Restoring a Fire Pit to its former glory

Hi all

Would anyone have any tips on restoring a Fire Pit?
Mine is usable, but the cover is extremely rusty.
Would anyone know of a paint or some sort of treatment I could put on it that would be safe for use with fire.

I wouldn't want my next BBQ to go up in flames!!

Thanks for your help

Default fire pit

Hi there, not sure what a fire pit is exactly--imagine it is some sort of barbeque. Try Stove Black, which is a stove paint that is heat resistant. Works on hot stove pipes etc. in the house. Comes in a small tin, from hardware, not too expensive, just prepare the surface with wire brush or coarse sandpaper to remove any loose debris, and lash on the stove black!! Cheers, eibhlin.

Default Fire pit

Thanks a million for that - much appreciated.
I'll be in the hardware shop on the weekend looking for that, it sounds just what I'm looking for.

I might even take a before and after picture and put it on JT!
Thanks for taking the time to reply Eibhlin, much appreciated

There's also a spray on one for stoves that you get in Woodies. Ronseal, I think.

Default Fire pit

Thanks Mickey

I'll be heading for Woodies at the weekend!
If anyone sees a rust covered weirdo there, it'll be me! After having cleaned the damn thing!

I needed to clean and smarten my BBQ so I sanded the rust off, cleaned it with white spirits and used a BBQ spray I bought in B&Q. It looks almost as good as new. Good luck with the fire pit.
