Default New Palm Trees turning brown after only a week or two?

Hi All,

Ok so although i do have a M.Sc in Plant Biotechnology I am not green fingered! I have just started doing our garden and planted 7 lovely palm trees, 2 Cordylines and 5 Phoneix Canary Island Date Palms. Two of the latter are in large pots on my decking and are in compost about 2 weeks and the leaves have started to go brown. Could this be due to to much water? I know they are desert plants so don't like a lot of water and it has been pretty wet so is this the cause? I lined the pots with stones to allow drainage and everyhting.... anyway will my trees die or will the climatize and being producing chlorophyll again? Help they cost me like 300 quid!

Hi there, i was at a gardening thing the other day and they recommend a soil based compost a John Innes No.2 or No.3, I think change the compost and that might help, the compost listed is for long term in pots! Check the stones too, are they from a beach, they shouldn't be? That's all the help i can give you, all the best with it. Siobhan
