noisy washing machine

Hi everybody, my washing machine is very noisy when it spins. Its about 7 years old and works perfectly. Is there any way to return it to the way it used to be when I first got it or is it inevitable that it gets noisier with age?

Hi.
I had this with my own recently ( 10 years old) and hubbie dismantled it from the back and found some bolts to hold the drum had come loose. Its now quiet again.

Bet ya one of the springs that hold the drum in place had gone. Means that the drum can rock and hit the side when spinning. Happened to mine a few months ago. My cousin who used to be a hotpoint service engineer fixed it for a couple of quid in a few mins.

The 2 times I've had problems were sorted thus.

1. wire from an underwire bra stuck in little holes on side of drum, check the drum and pull them out..

2. Drum bearing gone. A service guy said it wasn't worth fixing it, he was dead right unless you are prepered to fix it yourself. The bearing cost about €3 but took a good few hours to to remove and refit the new one. I did it myself and it work fine for another 4 years.

hi there if its really jumping around and you have tried all of the above FIRST try underneath the drum as there should be two small shock absorbers, when these get worn they can let the drum get into a funny occillation causing the machine to hop about. had this with one of mine a few years back, its an easy enough job to do at home although the shock absorbers are expensive I paid 80e back then. Found an appliance parts supplier on ebay based in england and they are really cheap compared to here, will post a link up when I find it again, hope it helps
