Default Removing Crackle Glaze paint effect

Hi All,
I picked up a little wooden unit, that had been previously been painted with the crackle glaze effect, which I want to remove & depending on the colour of the original wood,I will either wax it or stain it another colour.Any advise would be much appreciated as this is my first project.

Many thanks,
Radharc

I've never tried to remove a crackle glaze, but there are several good non-toxic water-based paint/shellac removers on the market. A hardware/DIY shop might be able to suggest the best one. Failing that, I suppose you could sand off the glaze and then use a paint stripper on the rest.
