i usually do 3 or 4 to 1 sand and cement with about quarter a cup of plasticizer/mortarcizer/ waterproofer .

mix well but don't leave mixing in a mixer for more than 5 minutes as it may cause too many air bubbles in the mix and cause cracks later.
