![]() My grandad made this chest of drawer around 40 years ago. He is now nearly 98. My little brothers and sisters had it for years and it was painted red with the drawers painted yellow and blue. I haven't got a picture of it with all the drawers in it but it looked like it came out of a cartoon.
I have now painted it and changed the handles. The only problem with it was there were no runners in it and the drawers were very difficult to slide in and out as teh wood has warped slightly. A friend of mine told me to rub candle wax along were the drawers run and hey presto, they move very easily now! Im going to line the inside of the drawers with some nice paper but Im finding it very difficult to find any. Does anyone know were you buy drawer lining? I also done lockers the week before to match. The lockers were bought for €3 each in a charity shop. Here is a link to a separate thread for my lockers that match http://www.jumbletown.ie/forums/showthread.php?t=120492 UPDATE - Very Kind lady in the Wallpaper shop gave me a whole box of half wallpaper rolls for FREE... so I started getting creative. This is what I did yesterday, the flowers on the chest of drawers. Im going to put a lot more on at tthe weekend. |

![]() You can use an old newspaper, cover it by transparent paint, ane it will look great. I did it with few wooden boxes and I'm really happy how they look.

![]() It looks great, I too love old furniture with a history.
I usually line drawers with normal gift wrapping paper or scraps of wall paper. At this time of year I'd also say shops have a lot of paper for wrapping school books? I remember when I was a child in the 80s many of those papers were waxed, which makes them even more durable as drawer liners. (I actually went mad and bought scented drawer liners in Laura Ashley, but they are square, too small for your purpose, and waay too dear. Wrapping paper+ one of those scented soaps that's too fancy to use will do the same trick...) |

![]() Beautiful work, I love the colour, it's very subtle and the handles set it off perfectly, well done.

![]() It looks really lovely. Re drawer liner - I bought a roll of Cath Kidson wall paper when on sale - looks great in drawers and shelves!
